Read the lease before you sign
- A lease is a binding contract that usually lasts for a full year. It becomes legally binding at the time it's signed.
- There is no guaranteed way to “break” a lease without financial risk.
- Know what's included in your monthly rent. Are utilities included? Parking?
- Are there any other one-time or monthly fees?
- Know the landlord’s rules and regulations.
- Don’t rely on oral statements from the landlord that are not included in the written lease.
- An informed consumer is a happy tenant
- Read and understand your lease before you commit
- Be sure to keep a copy of your lease and any other documents in a secure place (ideally, print a hard copy)
