After You Move In
When you move in, do these three things:
INSPECT
Inspect immediately
Look in each room, closet, and cupboard
Notice any odd smells!
Make sure appliances work
Check doors and windows, locks, plumbing
DOCUMENT
Use the landlords move-in checklist or create your own written list of damages
Take photos and/or videos
Keep copies of everything!
REPORT
Provide your documentation to the landlord
Promptly make requests for repairs in writing
Continue to document and report conditions while you live in the rental unit
